Magento installation

Postby JJac » Fri Feb 26, 2010 5:55 pm

Hi,

I was able to install AFA on one installation of magento without a hitch, but on another site it simply won't display any sales data. Both magento and AFA are working fine standalone, no errors in either. I've checked the config file which is filled out correctly (it's a copy of the working config with the updated db and site info), the db for magento and the url and secret key are in there. The hosting configuration is running the correct versions of PHP and mysql. I re-installed all the AFA files. I also checked the cookies and the cookie is there. Where else can I possibly look for trouble?

Thanks
JJac

Presumably the sites are configured so they can't interfere with each other's cookies? If they are on subdirectories or subdomains of the same site, there is a lot of potential for interference. Both Magento and AfA set a variety of cookies, and if any of them clash, you will get trouble. In particular, if the affiliate cookies clash, you may find that AfA is trying to credit a non-existent affiliate. In that situation AfA ignores the order, on the assumption that the affiliate account concerned has been deleted, or someone used an incorrectly formed link.

If you turn on logging in Magento, the AfA integration will write a message in the log if it is unable to communicate with the backend. That may help you see what is going on. Also, if you have root access to the machine where these sites are hosted, you could try Wireshark. This will let you spy on the communications between the integration and the backend, as a last resort.

Hmm. They are on different domains, different hosts. First thing I did was check the hosting configuration and it's up to snuff. Everything is the same except the host and the theme. I'll try turning on logging and I'll also try changing themes. Is there something in particular that could be interfering in a theme file? Thanks!

I've never heard of theme files giving trouble. You did clear the cache on both Magento installations, presumably?

If the cookie is there, it suggests that Magento is able to communicate with AfA, by the way. It might be worth changing the cookie name, to make sure it is communicating with the right AfA installation!

Did you get any information written into the Magento log?
